Malaria is recognized as a major cause of death in some parts of India. there have been recent changes in the Indian Malaria Drug Policy (in 2008) and a new Operational Guideline for 2009 is being reviewed. One issue is the reports from field based organizations that show higher slide positivity (SPR) and (in villages with adequate blood slides examined- ABER) high parasite indices (API) than is reported through official channels. We probably need a strong laboratory and strong entomology network covering all districts in the country. This cannot be strictly called active case detection however the slides had been collected at the Fever Treatment Depots-FTDs ?? Best Regards Soumik --- ##text## ##text## ##text##
