Today we would like to share with you the Measles & Rubella Initiative Annual Report for 2013. The whole EPI team directly or indirectly has contributed to the progress reflected in this report. Specifically we would like to acknowledge Marta & the SIG team for all the data inputs and Robert Perry for spending endless hours reviewing the draft materials. This year, we have striven to produce a more reader friendly and comprehensive report with the support and active engagement of all our Regional and country focal points, our Partners in the field and UNICEF’s communication’s leadership. The Report captures and highlights the progress and challenges faced under the five strategies set forth in the global Measles & Rubella Strategic Plan 2012-2020. It is structure as: 1. Vaccine More 2. Watch Closely 3. Be Ready 4. Be Heard 5. Innovate Described throughout the report you may find our efforts to contribute to more robust routine immunization systems, how we have been leveraging form the polio eradication platform, our continued focus to improve the quality of the SIA’s campaigns and a close look at surveillance networks in several countries. The M&R laboratory network activities and the outbreak preparedness and response fund which is core to our work. You can find regional summaries explaining the challenges and achievements of each region in reaching the measles and rubella target and lastly you may familiarize yourself with our “who is who” M&RI Management Team. We have included illustrations and personal accounts of the people benefiting from our collective work.
