POST 00549E : JOINT REPORTING FORM ON VACCINE-PREVENTABLE DISEASES Follow-up on Posts 00538E, 00542E and 00543E 14 February 2003 ________________________________________________________ This posting contains 2 contributions. First Alejo H. Bejemino (mailto:[log in to unmask]) Cold Chain Officer for Unicef/Afghanistan Country Office is sharing his views on the topic. Then Olivier Rondeaux (mailto:[log in to unmask]) from WHO is making final comments. ________________________________________________________ Just want to share my views on the above subject: I fully agree with what Robert had mentioned to include all levels with cold chain equipment particularly at district level which utilizes almost 80% of the total equipment. In Afghanistan we have already this inventory indicating the type of equipment at all levels, location and agency or partner responsible for the equipment. To make this inventory more useful for us to decide when to replace the equipment, we are adding another information on the maintenance records of the equipment. This column will record the problem encountered by the equipment and indicate the parts repaired/replaced. This will also help us to preposition the fast moving spare parts, decide whether to condemn the unit and what particular equipment is suited for each level. Alejo _______________________________ We would like to thank the Technet network for useful inputs to the choice of a cold chain indicator in the WHO/UNICEF Joint Reporting Form. Actually the one which was chosen stems from a number of suggestions made, with some modifications in order to maintain the outcome to only one indicator. The Joint Reporting Form is first of all a global tool and does not pretend selecting the best possible indicator for what any particular country wants to monitor. The JRF is available at http://www.who.int/vaccines-surveillance/DataDown.htm. The joint decision of WHO/UNICEF to select one cold chain indicator for international purpose is actually final. It does not preclude of course, a public discussion on this particularly if this can stimulate monitoring at country level. Countries should monitor, at district, regional and national levels, indicators that are most relevant to their own immunization system management. The narrow deadline was imposed by our will to respect regional deadlines in the JRF process Olivier ______________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________ Visit the TECHNET21 Website at http://www.technet21.org You will find instructions to subscribe, a direct access to archives, links to reference documents and other features. ______________________________________________________________________________ To UNSUBSCRIBE, send a message to : mailto:[log in to unmask] Leave the subject area BLANK In the message body, write unsubscribe TECHNET21E ______________________________________________________________________________ The World Health Organization and UNICEF support TechNet21.
