Alasdair Wylie (mailto:[log in to unmask]) is commenting further
on the Joint Reporting Form. As highlighted by Olivier Ronveaux's comments
before, the JRF and each individual country monitoring system are two
separate issues both having their own purpose. There is surely a rationale
behind having only one cold chain indicator in the Joint Reporting Form.
But national systems need to be quite more extensive. Although rather
brief, the bottom of the webpage at the link below gives an idea of the
types of resources for immunization systems that should be monitored and
the scope needed by a national system.

1. It is good to see that the latest version of the cold chain inventory
indicator on the JRF has been modified to include "working status" as we
had suggested, but a pity that the other recommended modification, "at
district level", was not made at the same time, particularly in view of the
very useful contribution which has now come from Afghanistan, making this
point.
I would suggest that if Alejo Bejemino could provide Technet with a copy of
the inventory format in use in Afghanistan it could be a useful step
towards developing a model format which would be of most use at country
level for management purposes.
2. A review of the of the Immunization System Indicators section in the
final JRF, for which Olivier Ronveaux provided the link, shows that there
is a total of 50 indicators (unnumbered, in six sections). It would seem to
be difficult to justify having just one cold chain indicator out of a total
of 50, but presumably the regions were consulted on this?
A number of other significant inconsistencies between the list of 12 "core
indicators" and the list of 50 on the JRF have been separately referred to
WHO (details available on request).
