POST 00634E : FROM HFC/CFC TO HC-BASED REFRIGERATION Follow-up on Posts 00487E, 00493E, 00500E and 00513E 26 January 2004 __________________________________ Terry Hart (mailto:[log in to unmask]) from IT Power India is advocating for the shift from HFC to HC-based refrigeration. TechNet had posted some contributions on the topic in 2002. It's a good reminder as 2004 is the starting point for phasing out fluorocarbons according to the Montréal Protocol. It would be quite interesting to know more about the implications of this change for Programmes in terms of resources/costs for example, and if any support is available, what/from where. __________________________________ I think its time that WHO reconsidered its policy on HFC refrigeration for CC and included Hydro Carbon refrigerants. We have been managing a project in India for the last 3 years where we have trained 7000 private sector refrigerator technicians in good HFC and HC refrigeration management practices. One of India's biggest commercial refrigerator manufacturers has shifted its production from HFC to HC. The automotive A/C sector (MAC) is also moving in this direction. HC has a multitude of advantages over HFC inclusive of possibility to simply convert from CFC. Safety issues at small scale (domestic refrigeration size) are demonstrated as negligible. Any thoughts. I think an update should be presented at Technet in March Best regards Terry _____________________________________________________________________________ Visit the TECHNET21 Website at http://www.technet21.org You will find instructions to subscribe, a direct access to archives, links to reference documents and other features. ______________________________________________________________________________ To UNSUBSCRIBE, send a message to : mailto:[log in to unmask] Leave the subject area BLANK In the message body, write unsubscribe TECHNET21E ______________________________________________________________________________ The World Health Organization and UNICEF support TechNet21.
