POST 00638E : FROM HFC/CFC TO HC-BASED REFRIGERATION 18 February 2004 _____________________________________ It appears that two of previous postings were not received. The first of these was a survey reminder that it is too late now to repost. The other is the following. My apologies for this mishap ! ------------------------------------ POST 00636E : FROM HFC/CFC TO HC-BASED REFRIGERATION Follow-up on Posts 00487E, 00493E, 00500E, 00513E and 00634E 7 February 2004 ____________________________________ Michel Zaffran (mailto:[log in to unmask]) comments here below on the question of HC refrigeration. ____________________________________ I agree with Terry's suggestion that HC be now considered as acceptable refrigerants for Vaccine cold chain equipment It should be noted that the reason HC were excluded at the time (mid 90's)was that very little information and experience was available on the safety of HC in refrigerators and particularly with regards to repair technicians handling. The preferred refrigerant at that time was R134a. It appears that that the experience has now been accumulated and that the risks related to the inflammability of HC are negligible given the relatively small amounts of HC contained in vaccine refrigerators. It is a good idea that this issue be discussed at TechNet. The agenda does not really have room for this at the moment but one could imagine a small satellite working group meeting to discuss the next steps for this at any rate all specifications for cold chain equipment will be revised as part of the move from the PIS to the PQS (which will be discussed at the TechNet consultation). regards Michel Michel Zaffran Coordinator, Access to Technologies Immunization, Vaccines and Biologicals Department Family and Community Health World Health Organization ____________________________________________________________________________ Visit the TECHNET21 Website at http://www.technet21.org You will find instructions to subscribe, a direct access to archives, links to reference documents and other features. ______________________________________________________________________________ To UNSUBSCRIBE, send a message to : mailto:[log in to unmask] Leave the subject area BLANK In the message body, write unsubscribe TECHNET21E ______________________________________________________________________________ The World Health Organization and UNICEF support TechNet21.
