POST 01052E : ADVANCE MARKET COMMITMENT FOR VACCINES 11 February 2007 ________________________________________ Five nations and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation launch Advance Market Commitment for vaccines to combat deadly disease in poor nations The first global project for the development of vaccines against endemic diseases known as AMC (Advance Market Commitment for Vaccines), promoted in the G7 framework to save millions of lives in the poorest countries and support their economic development with new methods, was officially launched at the Italian Ministry of Finance and Economy in Rome on Friday 9 February, in the presence of Queen Rania of Jordan. AMC is designed to help speed the development and availability of a new vaccine which is expected to save the lives of 5.4 million children by 2030. The AMC pilot represents the first step in a historic effort to create a market for life-saving vaccines for children in the world's poorest countries.
