MCHIP is USAID's flagship program accelerating progress towards achieving MDGs 4 & 5. Since 2008, MCHIP has worked in more than 50 developing countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean to improve the health of women and their families. MCHIP has supported programming across the spectrum of maternal, newborn and child health, immunization, family planning, nutrition, malaria and HIV/AIDS, focusing on helping countries scale up high impact interventions. In India MCHIP worked in partnership with Government of India at the national level and in the states of Jharkhand, Delhi, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh from 2009 - 2014 providing technical support for the coordination and implementation of Government of India’s RMNCH+A Strategy, as well as key high impact interventions for strengthening Immunization, Post-Partum Family Planning (PPFP), New Born Care and Pre Service Education (PSE) programs in the country. In India MCHIP supported the Universal Immunization Program (UIP) at the national, state and district levels to help strengthen and improve the immunization service delivery mechanisms. At the national and state levels, MCHIP had been critically involved with providing technical assistance to Government of India in drafting policies and guidelines, developing and implementing training packages, supporting measures for accelerated VPD control as well as in helping to mobilize new resources for routine immunization through government resources. At the district level, MCHIP strategized to demonstrate and advocate for innovations and successful approaches for improving quality and coverage of immunization services, in collaboration with district health department and partners. The MCHIP India Immunization team has developed toolkits containing process documents, success stories and videos on 5 high impact evidence based interventions which were implemented in MCHIP focus districts in the states of Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand in India. The interventions include Regular Appraisal of Program Implementation in District (RAPID): A Supportive Supervision Model for Strengthening Routine Immunization quality, Establishing Demonstration Sites for Cross Learning, Strengthening Newborn Vaccination the My Village My Home Initiative (MVMH): A community based tool to optimize immunization coverage and Improved Micro planning for increased access. Following successful results, these interventions were scaled up through government and partners. The entire resource material is available online.
