The WHO’s Department of Immunization, Vaccines and Biologicals (IVB) and WHO Health Emergency programme (WHE) are partnering with Project ECHO of the University of New Mexico (UNM), UNICEF, and TechNet-21 to host a series of 15 sessions that align with countries’ immediate and medium-term needs.
Webinar series topic: WHO Costing, Budgeting, Financing and Delivery of COVID-19 Vaccines
Next session: Operational Microplanning for COVID-19 vaccinationand experience with multiple products
TheNational Deployment and Vaccination Plans(NDVPs) guidance provided the framework for over 100 countries to develop their national strategies. At the district and sub-district levels, successful introduction, uptake and equitable distribution of COVID-19 vaccines depend on robust and continuously funded operational microplanning. While planning at subnational levels, factors to consider include: erratic, restricted and unpredictable vaccine availability; use of multiple vaccine products with different characteristics; the size of populations and their diversity; and the over-stressed and resource-constrained health system. To support governments, WHO has developed tools and guidance to strategically plan for COVID-19 vaccine deployment at the national level towards maximizing reach while addressing the challenges. The guidance provides a conceptual framework, and guidance on the process for COVID-19 vaccination microplanning at the district/sub-district level and its catchment areas.
