Dear colleagues,

You are invited to a new TechNet webinar series on Reaching Zero-Dose Children.

The Zero-Dose Children Webinar series will build understanding of how to reach key populations which are missed by immunisation and other basic health services including communities residing in poor urban areas (informal settlements), those affected by conflict and displacement and residents of remote-rural areas. A final webinar will unpack challenges in health workforce in reaching missed communities with basic health services. The webinars will share specific country experiences on the latest learning and best practices for bringing services to the hard-to-reach. This webinar series is a joint initiative between Technet, the Zero-Dose Community of Practice and the Immunization Agenda 2030 working group on coverage and equity.

The first session of our webinar series, Reaching Zero-Dose Children: Urban immunization, will take place on September 08, 2022, at 3pm CEST.

Communities missed by immunisation in urban areas tend to be marginalized in slums and often lack access to any other basic services. Although overall routine coverage is higher in urban environments, this percentage masks the high number of zero-dose children that may reside in a city but are not undocumented or unregistered with the health system. This webinar will unpack some strategies used to reach underimmunized children in cities and discuss key challenges.

Dear colleagues,

The first session of our upcoming webinar series on Reaching Zero-Dose Children has been postponed. We apologize for this inconvenience and will reassign a date for this session very soon. In the meantime, you can already register to the next session that will take place on 15 Sep 2022 at 3pm CEST

Session 2: Immunization in fragile/conflict affected settings

Children living in regions affected by conflict and insecurity are more likely to be zero-dose due to interruption in health systems, weak government capacity, and migration. Countries affected by conflict have struggled with missed communities being particularly vulnerable to vaccine preventable diseases like measles and diphtheria. This webinar will unpack challenges and share innovative solutions to vaccinating in conflict.

Dear colleagues,

The next session of our webinar series on Reaching Zero-Dose Children will take place on 22 Sep 2022 at 3pm CEST

Session 3: Remote rural setting

Remote-rural regions are hard-to-reach due to their geography or distance from more urban and peri-urban areas. This distance creates a challenge in transport for health workers and supply chains. These same communities face challenges to travel to medical care when required which makes it even more important that children are vaccinated against childhood illnesses. During this webinar, experts with share the experiences of reaching hard-to-reach populations in rural areas and nomadic communities.

Dear colleagues,

The next session of our webinar series on Reaching Zero-Dose Children with the Zero-Dose community of Practice will take place on 29 Sep 2022 at 3pm CEST.

Session 3: Human resources for missed communities

Well trained and motivated human resources for health (HRH) is a fundament for good quality immunization services. Many countries struggle with HRH challenges including low pay, lack of incentives for staff to work in remote and insecure areas, weak supportive supervision, lack of career paths and structural gender barriers in the health system. Community health worker continue to be expected to work unpaid in most countries despite their critical function to connect communities with the formal health system and health facilities. Accountability frameworks are weak and health workers are often ill-equipped and supported to respond to community needs. This webinar will build understanding how health workers can be supported and motivated to reach zero-dose children and build stronger primary health care systems.
