POST 01239E: VACCINE FREEZE-PREVENTION AIDE MEMOIRE−COMMENTS 12 MARCH 2008 ******************************************* Dear Moderator, I much agree with Andrew’s and Anthony’s observations and comments. A few comments on the text. In addition to the comments I want to draw attention to the fact that the newer VESTFROST ILRs are coldest at the top, the reason being that the ice-lining is in the top third of the compartment, previously the ice-lining was from top to bottom. (See graph attached) Vaccine cold rooms: Instead of closing of shelving in front of the evaporator, it would be advisable to store the heat sensitive vaccines on the top shelves, even right in front of the evaporator. If the temperature in the cold room is correctly set, there is no harm in storing freeze sensitive vaccines on the floor. With the introduction of new vaccines, we have a problem of space. Thermostats in refrigerators: Using mechanical thermostats, which most EPI refrigerators are using at present, does require seasonal adjustment. New electronic thermostats do not, and should not be user adjustable. - "Keep cold rooms and vaccine refrigerators in heated rooms†http://www.technet21beta.org/components/com_agora/img/members/3149/mini_vestfrostILR-temperatures.jpg
