Guidance
Planning and Implementing Solutions to address vaccine freezing in transport
Vaccine transport systems using conventional solutions of conditioning ice-packs without freeze-preventative devices are demonstrated to expose ~20% of vaccines to freezing. Countries can safeguard vaccines during transport by implementing solutions such as Cool Water packs within conventional passive devices or fully frozen ice packs with freeze-free passive devices (See resource- https://www.technet-21.org/en/resources/guidance/how-to-select-the-right-solution-to-address-freezing-during-transport) which provides additional information on these solutions). This document aims to share guidance on how to plan and implement appropriate freeze-preventive transport solutions- specifically Cool Water packs within conventional passive devices or frozen ice packs with freeze free passive devices. The document describes key solution implementation considerations: operational, financial, and policy planning, considerations for programmatic adoption of these solutions along with outlining potential roles and responsibilities of key stakeholders during the process
