POST 01039E : HEPATITIS B VACCINATION IMPACT 14 January 2007
_______________________________________
As they are rather light, we attach to this posting two resumes of
articles showing that HepB vaccination produces, after a period of
years, sustained declines in hepatitis B incidence in vaccinated
birth cohorts.
The first "Long-term efficacy of infant hepatitis B immunization
program" by Gong J, Li RC, Yang JY, Li YP, Chen XR, Xu ZY, Liu CB,
Cao HL, Zhao K, Ni DM, was published in Zhonghua Gan Zang Bing Za
Zhi. (Chinese Journal of Infectious Diseases ) 2003 Apr;11(4):203-5.
The full article is in Chinese.
The second is "Hepatitis B seroprevalence in Thailand: 12 years
after hepatitis B vaccine integration into the national expanded
programme on immunization", by Chongsrisawat V, Yoocharoen
P, Theamboonlers A, Tharmaphornpilas P, Warinsathien
P, Sinlaparatsamee S, Paupunwatana S, Chaiear K, Khwanjaipanich
S, Poovorawan Y. It was published in Tropical Medicine and
International Health. 2006 Oct;11(10):1496-502. The full article is
on a pay-per-view basis.
We reproduce here questions asked by Robert Davis when circulating
these two items:
"Now that hep B vaccination of infants is general in most countries,
what is the research agenda on unanswered questions in the
epidemiology and control of this virus, which is a major cause of
liver cancer? Has anyone seen a discussion article on this important subject?"
