Good day

I am a logistician by training with lots of field experience in cold chain but not a biomedical engineer or technician. We are working on developing a simple mobile app for health care facilities (not for district stores and higher level) for managning cold chain equipment.

I am looking for guidance, ideally an authoritative document, on cold chain equipment assessment/survey tools for assessing and monitoring the equipment status of CCE throughout its life cycle (installation, commissioning, testing, functional monitoring, servicing, repairing, decomissioning and disposing) which are more detailed than IGAT or SMT.

In addition, what essential facility and product data (type, model, make, serial number, manufacturer) is essential for a facility registry of cold chain equipment?

Are standard recommendations for routine servicing and preventive maintenance for CCE available?

I would appreciate any guidance or advice,

George

Hi Dr. Mongar,

We would be happy to provide more information and a demo. Please send me an email and we can coordinate.  mmorio@path.org

Hopefully we can also provide a webinar from our colleagues in Uganda later this year to share a demo and learnings.

Many thanks,

Matt

Hi Matt

I hope we eventually meet but in the meantime, during the webinar somebody asked about access to CCIS. I found a link on the ODK page but without all details.

- is detailed documentation available to th epublic?

- is there a sandbox which users can access to explore?

Please disregard my inquiry, in case you are already answering the same question to all participants.

Best regards,

George

Hi George,

Have you reviewed the documents available in the CCE management section of TechNet-21? https://technet-21.org/en/topics/cold-chain-equipment-management There's a lot of guidance materials available in the different sub-sections.

PATH has just helped deploy a nationally scaled CCE inventory management app called CCIS (cold chain inventory system based on the ODK-X platform) in Uganda with UNEPI, the Ugandan National Medical Store, and UNICEF with support from Gavi.

The system uses PQS equipment tables (which have standardized reporting of product data), as well as DHIS2 master facility lists along with the most recent CCE inventory that will provide near real-time CCE inventory visibility for UNEPI and NMS. It also tracks functional status (working or needs attention, and use status (installed and in-use, not installed, awaiting installation, awaiting decommissioning, etc.). The app also allows for maintenance and repair tracking and spare part consumption, etc. for each CCE device in the system. These all leverage data standards and methodologies that can be found on the CCE Management section of TechNet-21.

We'd be happy to answer any questions you may have as you work on your app. Please feel free to reach out directly with questions or an overview of the CCIS app.

best,
Matt

Dear Matt,

I would be happy if we can organize a demo on CCIS when ever you are available.

Hi Matt

Sorry for the late reply and thanks a lot for taking time to answer. I reviewed the documents but could not find a recommendation for a checklist. I could piece checklists together but sure this has been done by professional biomedical engineers and I want to avoid reinventing the wheel.

Anyway, as discussed very briefly today, I suggest Breno sets up a meeting after the presentation next week to explore further potential synergies for stock management, temperature monitoring and medical equipment management between CCIS and DHIS2. I am also keen to learn whether you are aligning with SMT.

Best regards,

George
