APRIL 3, 2024

Greetings IIS Community,

The AIRA 2024 National Meeting is just around the corner, and we are eagerly anticipating the opportunity to connect with all of you in person May 7–9 in Orlando, Florida. Don’t forget to register, especially if you’re presenting. For any additional details, please visit the National Meeting website.

A handful of us at AIRA found ourselves kicking off March in Orlando, Florida, for HIMSS24. Throughout the meeting, AIRA hosted several sessions, allowing us to collaborate in person with private and public health partners. Thank you to all who attended our sessions. Your support and participation help make these events both successful and memorable.

On March 25, AIRA held its third Discovery Session of the year, and attendees joined for a preview of the updated IIS Functional Standards. As a friendly reminder, there will not be an April Discovery Session. With National Meeting planning in full swing, we need all hands on deck!

In case you missed it, the March edition of SnapShots was released on March 27 and features articles about PHII’s IIS Procurement Toolkit, AIRA’s AART Clinics, and rightsizing security for public health systems. Be sure to check it out and consider submitting content for the June edition.

The Joint Public Health Informatics Taskforce (JPHIT) held its monthly meeting on March 28 and 29. Topics covered during the meeting include a follow-up conversation from HIMSS24 about the Trusted Exchange Framework and Common Agreement (TEFCA) and the role of public health in TEFCA. There is a lot to consider, but ultimately being on the same page across Public Health was top of mind. As the Data Modernization Initiative (DMI) Implementation Centers are closer to being rolled out, JPHIT discussed the broader role of JPHIT in the Implementation Centers’ work. Lastly, no informatics meeting is complete these days without a cursory mention of AI and the role it may play in public health. Spoiler: there remains a lot of work to do to figure out this role.

Right now we are in the middle of National Public Health Week (NPHW) and Adolescent Immunization Action Week (AIAW), and we encourage you to join the conversation and help promote these two public health initiatives.

Coming up in April:

  • General registration for the AIRA 2024 National Meeting closes on April 30.
  • The 2024 MACAW in-person meeting will be held April 8–11.
  • World Vaccine Congress meeting was held April 1–4, and an update is to come.

Hopefully, any April showers bring you May flowers,

Rebecca Coyle, MSEd

Executive Director

HOT TOPICS

New Tools to Showcase M&I Success

Every year from January to April, the AIRA Standards and Analytics team conducts the annual Validation measurement and testing as part of the Measurement and Improvement (M&I) initiative. This initiative, which was launched in 2015, serves as a testing and recognition program aimed at showcasing the progress of the IIS community toward national standards alignment. IIS that successfully attain Validation in at least one of the five measurement areas are honored at the AIRA National Meeting and presented with a Validation certificate. Notably, 100% of IIS jurisdictions engage in M&I to varying extents, with 55 IIS achieving Validation in the first quarter of 2023.

This year, in collaboration with M&I’s advisory body, MACAW (Measurement for Assessment and Certification Workgroup), AIRA has devised e-badges to complement existing M&I recognition and promotional efforts. IIS programs are encouraged to integrate these new e-badges into any suitable digital space permitted by their respective organization or agency. This includes, but is not limited to, email signatures, program web pages, IIS home pages, and presentation slides. Validated IIS can expect to see these new badges in their inbox later this month once first-quarter 2024 results are available. IIS can check out the one-page overview on AIRA’s repository here.

March SnapShots Now Available

Our next edition of SnapShots will be published in June, and we want to feature your work! If you or a colleague are working on something you would like to share with the IIS community or would like to publish your presentation from the AIRA 2024 National Meeting, please submit an article for consideration by Monday, April 22.

To submit an article for consideration, simply email your content to Cette adresse e-mail est protégée contre les robots spammeurs.
