Register Today for the Upcoming AIRA Members and Partners Meeting

Please join us for the upcoming AIRA Members and Partners meeting on Monday, July 15, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. ET. AIRA Members and Partners quarterly meetings provide important updates from AIRA and partner organizations. They are also a great way to get a high-level overview of the activities going on within the IIS and immunization community. Members and Partners meetings are held on Zoom.

At our next quarterly Member and Partners meeting, we will have a new partner, CDC's Office of Public Health Data, Surveillance and Technology (OPHDST), share about their work. During this meeting, we will get an overview from OPHDST, focusing on their work with the Trusted Exchange Framework and Common Agreement (TEFCA). OPHDST's mission is to optimize timely access, exchange, and integration of public health data while driving efficiency and consolidation of data and technology systems supported by CDC across all levels of public health. OPHDST will plan to attend and provide re-occurring updates on AIRA's future Member and Partner calls as well.

The registration link will automatically take you to Zoom.

We hope you can join us. Recordings of past meetings can be found in the AIRA Repository.

The June SnapShots Is Here, and So Is Your Opportunity to Submit for the Next Edition

The June edition of SnapShots is now available in the AIRA Repository. This edition features articles highlighting the work from two jurisdictions, Illinois and Louisiana. In this edition, you will also hear from AIRA’s Publication Project Workgroup, the Public Health Informatics Institute, and our very own Nathan Bunker as he invites you to the Tech Corner to “think like a hacker.”

Our next edition of SnapShots will be published in September, and we want to feature your work! If you or a colleague are working on something you would like to share with the IIS community, submit an article for consideration by Monday, July 15 to Cette adresse e-mail est protégée contre les robots spammeurs. A Message from Our Partners

Workforce Acceleration Initiative (WAI) Cohort 2 RFA Released June 3

In February 2024, the CDC Foundation was awarded federal funds from CDC, through the Association of Public Health Laboratories, to launch the Workforce Acceleration Initiative (WAI). The goal of WAI is to strengthen public health agencies and authorities’ (PHA) capacity to deliver information system improvements that are of top priority to each PHA by adding technology and data experts to their teams.

The application for Cohort 2 of the Workforce Acceleration Initiative (WAI) was posted on Monday, June 3, on https://www.cdcfoundation.org/request-for-proposals, and submissions are due on Friday, June 28 by 11:59 p.m. PST. The Cohort 2 application will be similar to the Cohort 1 application, except as noted below

The Cohort 2 application differs from the Cohort 1 application in the following ways:

  • Unlike Cohort 1, Cohort 2 will not require that applicants already have planned systems improvement project(s) on which the WAI placements would work. WAI placements might be assigned to a more general role or might be assigned to develop a project. Applications from agencies with planned systems improvement project(s) are welcome in Cohort 2 but having planned systems improvement project(s) will not be required.
  • Unlike Cohort 1, Cohort 2 will not require that applicant have already have an individual overseeing information systems improvement to direct the work of the WAI placements. Cohort 2 applicants may request that such an individual be recruited as one of their requested WAI placements. Applications from agencies with an existing individual overseeing information systems improvement are welcome in Cohort 2, but having an existing individual overseeing information systems improvement will not be required.
  • For clarity, specific questions in the Cohort 2 application may vary from those in the Cohort 1 application and some questions may be added. The general content requested from PHAs will be similar, along with the content of the required letter of support.

Cohort 1 applicants selected for Cohort 1 are not eligible to apply for Cohort 2. Cohort 1 applicants that were not selected are still eligible and encouraged to apply to Cohort 2.

Dive Into NACCHO’s Recently Published 2023 Immunization Profile Study Report

The National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO) recently released the 2023 Immunization Profile Study report. This survey assesses immunization capacity at local health departments (LHDs) nationwide, characterizing local activities to control vaccine preventable diseases and identifying challenges and opportunities to strengthen LHD immunization programs. It also offers a look at changes in capacity since 2017. Key findings show that LHDs’ top immunization-related priority for the next three years is addressing vaccine hesitancy. Give the 2023 Immunization Profile Study report a read and learn about their key findings and barriers.

AIRA 2024 National Meeting: Aggregate Analysis Reporting Tool (AART) Clinic Highlights

At the AIRA 2024 National Meeting, the Standards and Analytics team successfully delivered two AART 101 sessions and 45 AART clinics. The AART 101 sessions provided 13 attendees with a high-level overview of the tool’s navigation basics. The 30-minute AART clinics offered 122 participants from 44 jurisdictions and IIS implementers the opportunity to review M&I results specific to their systems, explore opportunities for improvement, and learn about new M&I measurement areas for data at rest (DAR) and HL7 patient matching.

Feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with 96% of the 28 completed evaluation surveys indicating that participants now have a better understanding or a much better understanding of opportunities and potential strategies to improve M&I results. We are excited to continue our collaboration with IIS and look forward to seeing you in Spokane, Washington, at the AIRA 2025 National Meeting next year!

Missed the opportunity to connect at the AIRA 2024 National Meeting, or looking to further improve your M&I results? You can request a virtual AART clinic by submitting a technical assistance request.
