Subject: Steam Sterilizer Supply After 2003

Dear Elisabetta,
Do you know if UNICEF Supply will support/supply the steam sterilizers and
sterilisable syringe and kits after the 2003 switch to AutoDisable syringes
mandated by the Joint statement on Injection safety?
This question has come up a number of times in Technet correspondence as
well as in UNICEF and ADB GAVI missions.
Many of us are helping countries with planning and financing TA and a
number of countries wish to continue to use the steam sterilizers and
sterilisable syringe and kits.
If you can help with clarifying the supply position it would be appreciated.
regards and best wishes,
allan

Dear Allan,
In reference to your question about the steam sterilizers specific for
vaccination (item S0152000 Sterilizer,double rack,steam,manual /EA and
item S0152010 Sterilizer, single rack, steam, manual/EA) I would like to
inform you that except in extraordinary circumstances to be reviewed on a
case-to-case basis, UNICEF SD will not supply steam sterilisers for EPI use
after 2003.
Spare parts and sterilisable syringes (incl. kits) will still be available
for a limited period in order to facilitate full transition to AD syringes
Thank you for your attention. If you have any questions or need additional
information, do not hesitate to contact me.
Best regards,
Elisabetta Molari

Dear Colleagues,
I just wanted to inform you that the database of technical options for
health care waste management is now up and running. Please try it out at:
http://www.healthcarewaste.org. This is the first version, and will be
continuously updated with more options.
We would be grateful in improving the database: Please send us a completed
data collection sheet (also under 'database' in the web site), of options
that you have seen in developing countries. Data are reviewed by a group
of experts before being introduced in the system.
If you have material you want included in the database or questions or
comments please send them to:
