Review of progress and way forward on measles and rubella elimination activities in the WHO South-East Asia Region
The specific objectives of the review were to: i) provide a candid estimation or review of the
progress towards achieving the regional goal by 2023; ii) assess the quality of implementation of
strategies laid out in the “Strategic Plan for Measles and Rubella Elimination in the WHO SE Asia Region
2020–2024” in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, and provide recommendations on how the
strategies and principles should be refined to accelerate progress towards the regional goal; iii) review
subnational data on immunization coverage and surveillance indicators to plug the immunity gaps in
countries of the Region; iv) identify risks and barriers for countries to progress and ways and means
to address them with urgency; and v) recommend a set of political and programmatic priorities over
the next three years (2022–2024) for implementers, measles endemic countries and donors in order
to accelerate progress towards achieving the goal.
