POST 00670E : PIS EQUIPMENT PERFORMANCE FEEDBACK
4 May 2004
________________________________
Andrew Garnett (mailto:[email protected]) from the UK is
requesting feedback from the field on PIS equipment.
The feedback issue has also been raised during the recent TechNet21
consultation. For almost two years now a feedback form is available on the
TechNet21 website. Some participants in the meeting reported problems with
equipment or spare parts. Still only one person sent the feedback form
until now and it seems many complain without ever reporting. Maybe some
people use other channels but there is no way to know problems if they go
unreported. So if you ever experienced problems please reply to Andrew and
also fill the form on the home page of the website
(http://www.technet21.org). It would help everybody !

I am working on a guideline for UNICEF Supply Division on the monitoring of
equipment performance in the field. This relates both to current PIS
products and to products that will be pre-qualified under the forthcoming
PQS initiative.
I would welcome contributions from Technet members on their own experiences
in this area. Specifically:
1) Where significant manufacturing defects have been detected in the field,
how have these been dealt with. For example:
- has the product manufacturer been contacted and, if so, what has been
the outcome?
- has UNICEF-SD been contacted and, if so, what has been the outcome?
2) The PATH vaccine freezing study in Indonesia and Soren Spanner's similar
ILR study in India and Nepal have been well-reported, as have a number of
recent field trials on incinerators and other near-market equipment. Do
members know of any other recent in-country studies looking at the
performance and reliability of established products?
Regards,
Andrew Garnett

The World Health Organization and UNICEF support TechNet21. The TechNet21 e-Forum is a communication/information tool for generation of ideas on how to improve immunization services. It is moderated by Claude Letarte and is hosted in cooperation with the Centre de coopération internationale en santé et développement, Québec, Canada (http://www.ccisd.org)
