POST 01100E : ORAL POLIO VACCINE COLOUR Follow-up on Posts 01050E and 01058E 30 May 2007 ____________________________________ Discussed back in February, the question of OPV color is revisited by [log in to unmask]">Salah [log in to unmask]">Haithami from Sudan who has a question and joins two pictures. ____________________________________ Dear colleagues, Once again a change in the colour of the OPV is observed in Sudan. In the explanatory note in Post 01058E, it says " the potency and efficacy of the vaccine are not affected by this change of pH, provided that the range of 6.5-7.2 be respected". Please see the attached pictures that show the yellowish colour of OPV that is found in a few vials. Can we estimate the PH from just seeing the colour? Immunization workers and families were very hesitant to use such vials even if we assure them that the potency and efficacy are not affected. Any more views?
