Identifying and reaching zero-dose (ZD) children and missed communities remains one of the most complex challenges in the pursuit of global immunization equity. Reaching ZD children with life-saving vaccines requires clear and accurate data about who they are and where they live. Join the Gavi Zero-Dose Learning Hub (ZDLH) for a 75-minute interactive webinar featuring immunization leaders from four Country Learning Hubs (CLHs) in Bangladesh, Mali, Nigeria, and Uganda. The four CLH representatives will share their experiences using innovative methods to identify and reach ZD children and missed communities.

    Discover:

    - Effective strategies for identifying ZD children and the root causes behind missed vaccinations.

    - Successes and challenges encountered by the CLHs in their rapid assessments.

    - Actionable insights to improve your own immunization programs and policies to more accurately identify and reach ZD children.

    Learning Objectives

Following this webinar, attendees will be able to:

    - Describe the methods the four CLHs used to identify and quantify ZD children by geographic area and why these children are missed by routine vaccination efforts (root causes).

    - Understand which identification methods used by the four CLHs were effective and not effective, and why.

    - Outline the key barriers and facilitators at each level, from policy to community, in identifying and reaching ZD children.

The COVID-19 pandemic underlined the need to bring together various sectors and disciplines to increase policy relevance and impact on complex societal challenges. It also demonstrated the importance of mathematical modelling in informing policy-making in an uncertain and rapidly changing environment.  In particular, the integration of epidemiological and macroeconomic models in a shared analytical framework (’integrated modelling’) can help account for the close interdependence between health and the economy and consider a wider range of outcomes of interest to society, including health, well-being, inclusive economic growth, etc.

A wide range of integrated models were developed to compare the costs and benefits of alternative COVID-19 policies and help inform which policy option can maximize population health while keeping costs at a minimum under various societal constraints (e.g., health system response capacity, keeping schools opened).  However, several factors undermined the production and use of integrated models for COVID-19 decision-making. With ongoing and increasing pandemic pathogen threat, addressing these factors now is a critical step towards strengthening pandemic preparedness and response.

Join us for an engaging webinar to know more about the forthcoming WHO-OECD-World Bank guide on Strengthening Pandemic Preparedness and Response through Integrated Modelling and to discuss how the lessons learnt from the COVID-19 pandemic can guide proactive actions now.

Real-world stories from the frontlines reveal how practitioners in Bangladesh, Mali, Nigeria, and Uganda are developing tailored local solutions to bring equity to immunization. Join The Geneva Learning Foundation (TGLF) and Gavi’s Zero-Dose Learning Hub (ZDLH) for an interactive session that analyzes real-world strategies for identifying and reaching zero-dose children across urban areas, conflict zones, and other marginalized communities.

During this webinar, attendees will learn how practitioners are overcoming barriers to reach zero-dose children through unique approaches to identification, microplanning, community engagement, and integrated services. In addition, learning and immunization specialists will highlight opportunities to turn these real-world stories from lessons learned into actionable, replicable strategies that can be applied at the community and sub-national levels. Attendees will leave the webinar with a new understanding of how local activities can inform global efforts to leave no child behind.

Simultaneous translation into French will be available. L’interprétation simultanée sera assurée en français.

Advancing Local Solutions and Innovations for Lasting Impact: Applying Strategies for COVID-19 Vaccination to Routine Immunization

    When: Wednesday, December 6th, 2023 from 9:30 - 11:30 AM ET
Where: Virtual or in-person at the Woodrow Wilson Center

Please join the Wilson Center’s Maternal Health Initiative, in collaboration with MOMENTUM Routine Immunization Transformation and Equity project, for an event sharing best practices and innovations used to achieve high equitable coverage of COVID-19 vaccination and reach hard-to-reach priority populations, and how they could be applied to routine immunization. The event will focus on key themes such as community engagement to promote vaccine confidence and improve accessibility, strategies for reaching priority populations, partnerships between government and NGOs, strengthening data availability and use for decision-making, and adapting supply chain management to meet the needs of new vaccines. Speakers will discuss opportunities for applying these strategies to routine immunization, and what is needed to facilitate that transition.
