Malaria is a preventable and curable life-threatening parasitic disease, and yet there are still an estimated 627,000 deaths a year, of which 77 per cent are children under five years of age. Following the prequalification of R21/Matrix-M vaccine by WHO, UNICEF anticipates the market will have sufficient malaria vaccine supply to meet all demand by 2024, and over time, it expects the weighted average price to fall.
